People say young love never lasts. They say you should wait and grow up first, you should figure out who you are. But those people didn’t know us. They didn’t know that she didn’t like shoes and Christmas was her favorite time of the year. They didn’t know that she liked to feel the cold dirt run through her fingers and floppy hats were a must when planting flowers. Curly hair was meant to be wild and Fireflies were meant to be chased. Paint wasn’t just for walls and ceilings but for noses and skin. Our love was the rarest kind of love and I held onto it with everything I had. But you see, Sara Williams wasn’t in control of her choices. Her mind betrayed her and was her hearts worst enemy. Sometimes we're only meant to have a certain amount of time with the person we love. Sometimes a lifetime isn’t enough. But you take what you’re given and you make the best of every moment. This is a story about love, life and never giving up. This is a story about a woman who tried to be better for a man and a man who loved a woman more than his next breath. This is a story about us… Sara and Cash Williams.

Sara and Cash moved to a small town after they got married to get away from her parents. They bought an old farmhouse that needed tender loving care. Cash acquired a job as a deputy while Sara worked part time at the library. The move was to provide freedom to grow away from her smothering mother. The life they built was filled with happy and sad moments. The one constant thing in their lives was love.

Sara struggled with anxiety and loneliness. Her mind would betray her with worried thoughts. Sara lived in a state a perpetual paranoia. Cash loved Sara despite her mental illness. Cash was very protective and understanding of Sara's condition. Sara was unpredictable and had no control over her mood swings.
Im not sure how I stumbled upon this book but it certainly landed in good hands. This story encompassed everything I look for in an emotional read. I love a good heartwarming story about characters struggling to overcome any form of illness. Horne did a great job of capturing Sara's illness. Horne showed the struggles Sara faced on a daily basis. Not to mention the effect her illness had on her husband and parents.
The story included past memories and scenes from the time Cash started dating Sara when her illness went undiagnosed. These past scenes help develop the characters forming a deeper connection with the reader. Sara struggled for normalcy while trying to balance a simplistic life.
“My mind is falling in on itself. Life seems blurry. Nothing is clear.” Great quote.

The story was not limited to Sara's problems. In this small town it was hard to hide problems and issues happening with the other characters.

To reference the authors words, Cash was sick in love with his sick wife. It's a bittersweet story considering Cash does everything he can to protect Sara and keep her happy. Yet Cash will never understand the cravings Sara had, to shut off the noises she heard. The author showed all the varying symptoms of this illness.

I'm a sucker for stories that can enlighten me and educate me about illnesses I'm unaware about. I kept waiting for something horrific to happen. Knowing this kind of illness I'm certain something bad was bound to happen. Every time the author transitioned a new scene with Sara I read with caution expecting chaos.
Cash's character goes above and beyond for Sara. He tells Sara he loves her and shows her daily. Cash was the epitome for support. Without Cash I'm certain Sara would not have coped with her illness as well as she did.

Cash was helpless in comprehending the symptoms of Sara's mental illness. Cash gave Sara an unconditional love. Sara and Cash loved hard and together they weathered the storm of Sara's illness despite her mother's constant coddling.
The story showed many forms of love through the minor characters. Every characters relationship had tough times but they too weathered the storm of love.
This story depicted that sometimes the best remedy for any illness is unconditional love and support.
The author did an excellent job illustrating how these characters changed over time even with love present. These characters showed tremendous growth.

Chasing Fireflies Paige P Horne 9781539617105 Books Reviews

My heart hurts ’( I’m a crying mess and I will definitely remember this book for many, many years! Mental health is a daily struggle for me, and millions of other people, too! I think everyone should read this book, especially people who don’t understand depression or any other mental illnesses some may have! Kudos to the author for creating this outstanding story that touched me so deep! To be able to give a glimpse inside the head of way too many people that can’t seem to get ahead of this terrible disease we call depression, is simply amazing! <3
A story that needed to be told. I loved the message that this book brought to light. I'm not a big fan of the delivery though. Choppy and a bit scattered when talking about the other characters and different scenes. But the you can tell the love and dedication it took in writing this book. I felt the writers need to portray Sara's struggle (which I am forever grateful Paige did it because my mom struggles with Manic Bipolar and depression disorder) in the right light so people can better understand that its not a choice. Its a malignant disease that its suffers cannot escape. Loved the storyline and characters! Very great and emotional read.
“Who’s to say anyone’s relationship is healthy? We all got our shit to sort. It’s not giving up on each other when the shit sorting gets tough—that’s what matters.”

It shouldn't have surprised me that this author would write an emotional story. THIS story is out of the ballpark emotional. Dealing with bipolar disease or manic depression is not a fun one to be sure. The author did her research and wrapped it all up in this story of Sara and Cash.... and their love for one another. This book reminds you, as the quote from above does, that love knows no bounds.. and no matter what you stick.
Chasing Fireflies
By Paige P. Horne
5 out of 5 stars

The story Chasing Fireflies by Paige P. Horne is family life/romance book. This is a story of two people who are madly in love and are holding onto each other tight as if every day could be their last. This is the story of Sara and Cash Williams. I found this story to haunt my thoughts long after I finished reading. The storyline is beautiful and the characters are amazing. Cash Williams married Sara when they were young. He has never regretted this decision, just wished that he could change the situation that Sara is in. She has an illness that impairs her mind and she is not always able to control her moods and actions. Cash doesn’t always understand why Sara does some of the things she does, however, that doesn’t change his love for her one bit. His decision to marry Sara has alienated him from both his parents and although Sara’s parents take a role in her life they are always critical of both of their decisions. This story begins with Cash and Sara moving to a new town. As it is a small town they soon begin to socialize with others and make many friends. However, Sara’s illness is not something that they can ignore so their struggles sometimes lead to arguments.

Sara is an amazing person that loves Cash with all her heart. She is sometimes insecure of his love for her and needs to be reminded of how much he loves her. Sara’s illness causes friction and arguments between both herself, Cash and her parents. Sara has her good and bad days and it breaks my heart to read of when she has the bad ones. Sara also goes through times when she will not listen to even Cash and her illness always gets worse. It is a balancing act and one that Cash always prays that they will get through. Even though Sara has her ups and downs she does work at the library where she gains new friends so that she is not isolated.

This story is emotional. Quite a few times I was reaching for tissues. However, it also is about love that runs deep and is unconditional. This is the first story that I have read by the author and I found that both her writing style and character development are amazing and I will be reading the other books she has written. This story does include adult situations and sensitive subject matter. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.
